They say money can’t buy you happiness but it can buy you 2/3 of The Strokes discography at Record City, and that’s good enough for me.

Not an overwhelming selection of used cds but I found a couple of gems, nice variety of Blues cds...

The best record store we’ve been to so far in San Diego! Has a pretty large selection. A lot of rock and jazz, but also a solid variety of other genres.

Record City is the very first record shop I’ve been to and I love it!!!!!! There’s so many records and CDs and the prices are good too!

A fairly nondescript shopping plaza is home to this *excellent* shop selling new and used vinyl (CD and memorabilia, too). Extremely fair and competitive pricing with no signs of price gouging anywhere. The shop is well-curated with super friendly, welcoming staff. Overall, all genres are represented and browsing is easy (new arrivals first followed by indie rock, metal, classic rock, a dedicated Brit Pop section, country, etc so it’s easy to jump to what you want). They also do a great job stocking the key releases by essential bands, too. And they have some rare releases displayed too, in case you’re on the hunt for something hard to find. I spent $110 and came away with a nice mix of new and used records — with all the new ones priced well enough to inspire me to finally add them to my collection (Cake’s “Pressure Chief,” Tom Petty’s “Into the Great Wide Open,” and two from the world’s best cover band, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes). I also added two classics in G/VG shape cover-wise but VG vinyl-wise and priced nicely at $5 and $8 respectively (“American Fool” and “Think Visual”). Finally, as I found out while paying, if you buy 5 or more records, each is a $1 off. If you spend over $100 you get a free t-shirt from their selection of band t-shirts or one bearing Record City’s logo (bonus!). I’ll definitely be back as I left many a record I wanted in the stacks for another time.
