I sold my vinyl collection, which includes my dad’s vinyl too, because I need money & am unhoused. The manager told me on the phone that my newer vinyl he could accept but not my father’s because they were moldy & he would discard them. Mind you, these records hold sentimental value to me. I asked him what he was going to do with the records & he then told me he would discard them or I could. Instantly I smelled the bullshit. I told him I would discard of the records. When I went to pick up my money & my father’s records, he then grabbed my father’s Atlantic Starr album ‘As The Band Turns’, then saying the mold started after that particular album. Please do NOT patronize this establishment. I am trying to find a reputable vinyl shop with honest employees. That was complete bullshit. He knows he would have sold those records at a higher price. What a dishonest way to deal with a customer selling their vinyl because they need money. DO NOT COME TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT.
went here recently on a trip to chicago. Didn't buy anything but it seemed like a nice place with nice selection. Prices a little wonky on some titles and lots of new inventory. A little bit confusing layout and some cheaper prices elsewhere. Also...HATE a bag check. But if you have the time to dig ytpu will have a good experience here.
Pretty good selection and they had some bootleg vinyls first place Ive been to with any bootlegs found some great vinyls there but they also ha cassettes and cds among other things
For anyone who enjoys collecting vinyl records and has a particular fondness for this type of music: SHUGA Records in Chicago is highly recommended. The slightly longer drive is well worth it. I was actually looking for a different record store nearby, which ultimately proved to be very disappointing. On my way home, I walked past SHUGA and initially didn't want to go in because the place looked so run-down, and I was sure I wouldn't find anything that interested me. I was wrong. In fact, their focus is on rock, pop, industrial, and alternative music. It's incredible what you can find there. Among other things, they even have dedicated sections for Muslimgauze and Nurse Wirh Wound.
Really fun store. Good selection of various genres and accurate grading. Employees are friendly. I will say that in general their prices are a bit high for your typical records and quite high for collectibles, but still worth a stop in for sure as you can find something worth it if you’re willing to dig. Bonus: very cool store stickers are free.
