Best place for buying music on the west side if you ask me. I’ve visited many times for CDs, vinyl, and cassettes and am generally satisfied with their prices, selections, organizing, and vibe. Easy to park too.
The store offers a huge variety of works and artists across every musical genres and styles. Literally speaking, it can be found almost every little thing from classical to the latest musical creations including jazz, folk, rock, and more, issued on wide selections of media: in addition to traditional LPs and CDs, there were also found VHS, Audio Cassettes, and Laser Discs. I was excited to see such huge amount of excellent LPs in one place. It was great to find large number of really rare and unusual jazz releases. But, my impressions were considerably damaged, when I discovered at home that there is no any correlation between the sum of the prices, indicated on the LPs and the money that I was told to pay at the store for my purchase. My purchase included over 70 LPs. Unfortunately, I was charged more than I had to pay. Impressed by this, I strongly recommend: a) pay by credit card, never cash; b) checking that the total price of the items you selected matches all announced promotions and discounts, especially for large purchases; c) always ask the receipt of the payment. And I wish you good shopping and enjoy from listening to music, no matter what is going on.
The best record store in Santa Monica. They have a huge collection of genre of Records, from oldies, pop, Rock and roll other famous singers (including alot of compilarion albums). They have a small collection of dvd/blu ray including a small selection of vhs on the vhs section.
We walked into this place on a Saturday afternoon. I believe the gentleman who worked with us was either the owner or possibly the manager. He was polite, knowledgeable and friendly. We were selling about 600 vintage CD's. He said "we primarily sell rock and R N B." He suggested the best way for him to help us is to take a look at what we had. He was fast and knew exactly what he was looking for. 30 minutes later we walked out with $55.00 cash and a wonderful experience. Not only will I recommend Records Surplus but we are now devoted customers and big fans! Rock and Roll Indeed!
Selections are pretty dope found some good jazz, r&b, soul. Rap section was kind of disappointing and dollar bin areas don’t have a super great selection in my opinion but maybe I didn’t look enough. Prices are a bit high for certain albums in my opinion, cds that I can find for $3-4 were priced at $8-10 so was a bit dissatisfied. Overall they have a decent mix of newer music and older music. Rock section looked pretty great. I found some nice 45s and a few sealed cds that I am excited about. Staff was friendly and store is nicely organized. Nice jazz section I was very excited to see that. I would definitely return. Parking is available on the street just be mindful of the meters and signs.
