One of my favorite family run record shops in all of Chicago ... Its a family affair at Out Of The Past Records and Dustys. Everyone is friendly, helpful & the vibe is chill. Enjoy a spot with with a lot of history & what i consider to be a part of Chicago's rich Dance music history and culture... They have one of the largest 45 collections I've seen in the city. Both old music and new music... I love sharing my lifelong passion of owning physical copies of the music I love with my kids , who also have picked up the crate digging bug , I've had my whole life.
This is a record collector's paradise. Whatever genre you're looking for, its here. Attention djs..looking for old school 12" vinyl? Its here. Must visit!
If you have ever planned that vacation where you revisit the places of your youth, a time where actions followed cause logically, you will enjoy the travel back in time through "out of the past Records". While listening to "the main ingredients jam, " Of this I'm Sure" , I could've sworn I heard the jingle of the ice cream truck and see families laughing while sitting on the front porch together.
On each of our trips, I make a 'tentative' itinerary, but I ALWAYS make sure there's a vinyl shop listed. From reviews I chose Out of the Past Records and this store did not disappoint! The owner is actually featured in their airport among the wall of black owned businesses, which led me to believe I selected the right store. When I walked in it felt like "home" and it really felt like "the past"! It's such a nostalgic store and it has THOUSANDS of vinyl (old and some new) and so much more! The owner Marie Henderson and her granddaughter Annisa Gooden were so very welcoming! I failed to get the employee's name that checked me out, but she was just as pleasant. PLEASE, if you are a vinyl lover and you visit the Chi, please show this beautiful business some love! They even ship to you and offer lots of services! You will not be disappointed!! ❤️❤️ One of the best things for me was the store had it's own New Edition and Bobby Brown section!
