This is such a cool spot and I love that we have it in town. Everyone is so friendly and the record player that a friend bought me from here brings me joy all day long, partly because it was purchased locally from a friend, and partly because the record she bought me is even from a local artist and fellow mom (Alva Leigh!) I’m so glad we have this record store and I wish every neighborhood had one. I love that they throw events for the community and that they’re so much more than a store. Yay Yellow Racket!
Great deals but they should put the band names instead of having just the letters but still Great vibes and the used albums are awesome
I had one of the most awkward and uncomfortable experiences here earlier today, and after this interaction I can confidently say I won’t be returning. I went in to sell a large collection of Nicki Minaj vinyls. I tried calling ahead with no answer, which wasn’t an issue. When I walked in, the man behind the counter was standing at the register talking casually with another customer and did not appear busy. I asked if they were currently accepting trade-ins for store credit because I had already seen another vinyl in the store that I was interested in purchasing. The moment I asked, the energy completely shifted. His response was sarcastic and extremely awkward. He would not make eye contact with me at all, which immediately made the interaction uncomfortable. Without saying much, he disappeared into the back. Shortly after, a second employee came out, who also avoided eye contact and made no attempt at conversation or basic customer service. I even told the first employee that if he was busy, I didn’t mind waiting. Despite that, the entire interaction felt dismissive—like he simply didn’t want to help me or had already decided I wasn’t worth his time. There was a strong sense that something about me was the issue, though nothing I did warranted that kind of treatment. When the second employee finally spoke, he bluntly said “$30.” No greeting. No explanation. No “hi,” “hello,” or “how are you.” Nothing. The tone and body language made me feel uncomfortable, judged, and written off—almost as if I were being treated like a nuisance or a potential thief rather than a paying customer. What made this even worse was that there were only about three people in the store at the time, and the staff was noticeably friendly and engaged with everyone else. The contrast in how I was treated versus other customers was impossible to ignore and is what made the experience so unsettling. This wasn’t about the amount of store credit offered. It was about the lack of professionalism, basic courtesy, and how uncomfortable I was made to feel in a space where I’ve previously spent money and even placed special orders. I left feeling shaken enough that it took my entire drive home to process the interaction. I’m sharing this because I have supported this store in the past, but after today, I have no intention of coming back. No one should be made to feel this unwelcome for simply asking a question and trying to do business.
From ordering vinyl for customers, to having amazing sales on the regular, this is the idea of a perfect record shop. Treat everyone like human beings, amazing conversation, and music knowledge. Always great stuff on sale. I truly love this store and will never stop shopping here. A good deal of my vinyl and cassettes are from yellow racket!
I'm a record store fan and love this one. Here's 5 reasons why... 👌 Exterior + Windows - one of the cooler record store buildings I've seen. So often, stores are crammed into a small, nondescript space. This place breathes, with natural light + 3 big rooms. Space to chill. ✊ Fun Used + Curated New Vinyl - the best record stores have a personality that's a mix of the owner/employees and their audience. YRR has that. 🙌 Multi-Modal - space for a live show inside + couches so your ladyfriend/manfriend/alienfriend can relax whilst you browse. There's even a tattoo parlor in the place! 👊 Worthy $1/$2/$3 bins 🤘 Nice Owner - who took a chance and started this thing right around the pandemic. (Amazingly) Well worth your support. One more kudos. I love weird record store names, and this qualifies. Check this place out - it's got mojo 👏
