I bought tickets for my boyfriend to tour Third Man Press, and honestly, it turned into one of my favorite experiences we’ve done together. His love for music is one of the things that made me fall in love with him in the first place. Vinyl is everything to him—his collection is unreal—and he’s a huge Jack White fan. So expectations were high… and somehow, this place still blew them away. The second you walk into the store, you feel it. Nostalgia in the best way. Listening booths, recording booths, nods to Sun Studio, antique jukeboxes—it’s the stuff nostalgic dreams are made of. We could’ve spent hours just flipping through records and staring at the memorabilia on the walls. Then came the tour. Salem and the plant manager (I wish I remembered her name—she is truly an unforgettable soul) were our guides, and they made everything light, fun, sarcastic, and genuinely engaging. We saw the entire record-pressing process step by step—from standard vinyl to custom pressings (which is freaking cool)—along with all the quality checks. A true start-to-finish experience. And the history? Jack White built this plant from scratch. That alone is impressive. But what stood out even more is the culture. You can just tell the people who work there love it. Real passion. Real pride. I especially loved hearing that they shut down at 4:00 on Fridays so employees can go be with their families. Kudos, Jack—that’s classy as hell. 10 out of 10. You absolutely have to check this place out. I can’t wait to come back for a live show—I’m sure it’ll be just as impressive.
If you have any love for vinyl and you're in Detroit, Third Man Records is a MUST! Make sure you book a tour well in advance since they sell out so quickly. Our tour guides were Salem and Bree, who were wonderful, very knowledgeable ladies! The tour is very interactive and you are encouraged to ask questions! You don't have to be a Jack White or The White Stripes fan to appreciate this really cool place.
We were on a day trip in the area and stopped in not knowing what to expect. The building is beautiful, with lots of Detroit memorabilia. There’s also a cool window to look into the record factory. Definitely a good place to stop if you are in the area.
The team at Third Man Records were great hosts during our visit. A great experience all around. Thanks!
A planned highlight to my visit to my brother's home in Windsor was to come to Third Man Records for my first time. We went on Sunday, March 2nd. I had an amazing time enjoying the space with my family which included my 15 month old niece. Our visit was incredible, and the staff there, especially Salem, did everything to make it right for us while we were there and afterwards when I had a concern. The store was gorgeous, we loved looking around and all the details. When my niece is more talkative we would love to record her on vinyl there. Can't wait to return again, this place is a mecca for music lovers, and those interested in fine craftmanship, creativity, and community. Would give more stars if this program allowed. Laura Mackie
