Salzer's

My parents bought me Metallica - Ride The Lighting album here in 1999. This record store, and my parents buying me that album changed my life’s trajectory. Forever grateful to my parents for being so cool and taking me to Salzers. Hope I’m able to take my kids here someday.

Gotta love these guys! Still owned and operated by Jim Salzers wife and son. They have kept to the roots and it's still as fun as it was in the 70s when I would go there with my mom and dad. Obscure music collection and prices are really good. Found an old punk rock record that is very hard to find.

When people from out of state visit, they want to visit Amoeba. I oblige, but if at all possible I encourage them to come with me to Salzer's instead. Amoeba is a spectacle. But Salzer's is the real deal. This is where you want to shop. It is every bit is as good in terms of selection, whimsy, amusement - but the prices are realistic. It's the best of both worlds. It has the charm of a local record shop that punches in the weight class of the best in the business. Not to mention it has a full smoke shop upstairs, a jewelry shop, clothing, novelties, CDs, tapes, DVDs, posters, toys, gifts... There is something for everything here. It's a perfect store.

If you thought Amoeba was the last great record store think again. This place is also huge and has two levels. Not just a well organized selection of vinyl, but every gift you can imagine. Salzer's alone is more than worth the drive from LA, but for Ventura locals this is a legendary establishment that embodies southern California culture. Take Exit 64 off the 101 and step back in time to a place that truly delivers the goods.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! 1 of the coolest stores I have ever been too!! So much to look at and an awesome sticker collection. Definitely coming here again. Only problem is I’m not sure who decided to put the “Adult” section next to the gifts and TOY’S!! Not like I’m complaining tho lol.
