This shop had the widest selection of records i've seen in Utah!!! They had everything! Some records were more inexpensive which was nice, still maybe too steep for a student ;) Will be coming here again!!!
1993. The internet as we know it did not exist yet I'm not sure how I landed on Randy's to answer my handwritten question, except that their reputation was already well known state wide, as evidenced by my reaching out to them, 90 miles away. I kept this letter in a safe place all these years. As I stumbled upon it just now, I thought y'all might be interested in viewing it. Look at the gorgeous handwriting accompanying this gracious response to a young person seeking answers. I still cherish this piece of history, both mine and a remnant of the way life used to be.
Randy’s records always has a great selection that always seems to be getting new additions. They have choices for anyone ranging from audiophile to casual music enjoyers. They also have a cd section and a cassette section which is more than many stores can say. They also reasonably price things and have new and used music. Also every time I’ve been there the employees are incredibly friendly and helpful!
I came here from Phoenix, AZ with my dad who’s from Salt Lake City & grew up not too far from Randy’s Records as a child. This place is a gem! I have been to record stores all on the west coast (San Diego having the best record stores) and let me say that Randy’s is LEGIT! Never have I seen a Pachyman vinyl so that was amazing to see in store! I also read through reviews and people who complain about bootlegs have no idea how hard they are to come across even as bootleg pressings. My dad & I left with some goodies & some stuff I wasn’t able to find in Arizona or California! I will be visiting Randy’s every time I come to visit Utah! The only thing I did notice was the prices are fair but at the same time they’re more than what I would pay in Arizona or California for the same things. Specifically the turn tables and the edifier speakers. Most vinyls however are priced fair. We came in 12/24/24 & had a great experience.
So I was headed to the heavy metal shop. I was looking for a place to park and the only one available was right in front of Randy‘s records which is right across the street from the heavy metal shop so I went in there and oh boy, they have a great selection of awesome records and I have to say they have lower prices than most outlets so I will always be a fan of Randy records anytime I’m in Salt Lake I will be sure to stop back in. 😎
