Must‑visit. Randy himself was the unexpected highlight for me. He was welcoming, and a walking encyclopedia of Jersey’s underground music history. After hanging out a while, taking in all the vintage board games, vinyl records, tapes, and CDs, he was soon sharing stories about the chaos of the infamous City Gardens days. I learned he was a promoter there for decades, working with a laundry list of icons including Fishbone, Exploited, NIN, They Might Be Giants, Testament…Danzig’s first show ever was there! He told tales about bands who crashed at his house, and about thrash bands that were supported by the Old Bridge Militia. Randy, his wife (owner), and staff (Rick), were like meeting the living pulse of New Jersey’s underground music scene! This was more than a shopping experience, I connected with people who helped build that scene and continue to promote great music by scheduling well-known musicians for in-store performances. My homework is to check out these books: Jersey Metal and No Slam Dancing, No Stage Diving, No Spikes. Keep listening to music! ~ Record Stores Across America (RSAA)
What a great person Randy is. I had a large box of old albums & 45's that I no longer needed, Randy came that same day, looked over all and gave me an extremely fair price for all. I am so appreciative. Thank you Randy for being the honest and reliable person that you are. Happy Holidays!
Great place to find your favorite record, spend your Saturday, bring your teen, check out some nostalgia, bin dive and talk to Randy about your favorite time at the City Gardens. Also check out a show, in a way no one you know, unless you bring them, will ever see. There always time to raise one high while your there.
Lemme tell ya, Randy Now’s Man Cave is single-handedly responsible for my rebuilding my vinyl collection. It’s a tremendous shop, with new surprises hitting the floor daily. I’ve figured out that I’ve probably bought 100 new, reissued, and used albums since I started going there, and Randy is always willing to help with special requests. The shop also hosts live shows, with many world class performers (Graham Parker, Palmyra Delran, The Cocktail Slippers, Tommy Stinson, a Steve Garvey) coming into the store to entertain. The biggest draw though is the legendary Randy Now. Bigger than life, his encyclopedic knowledge of music combines with his good nature to make this place so very special. Six out of five stars!
I absolutely LOVE Randy and his Man Cave! Great selection of vinyl, cool vintage toys and a sweet venue for live music!
