Awesome selection and friendliest staff ever. Such a good feeling to connect on a love of music. Made my day.
I’ve always liked this local record store and even told a friend visiting from abroad to check it out. I’ve bought a few great records there myself over the years. Unfortunately, his experience couldn’t have been more disappointing. He went in hoping to find something special to gift his dad back home, but instead of being greeted or offered help, he was told, “Don’t waste your time here, you won’t find what you’re looking for. You can check outside the $2 rack.” It’s disheartening to hear that kind of response from a place I’ve supported and recommended. A little kindness or curiosity would have made all the difference. Sadly, that one moment cost them both a customer and a bit of the good will they’d built.
Shops like Psychic Records are exactly why we live in a neighborhood. Personal, local, curated. It makes THIS block unlike any other block. And in the face of our increasingly homogeneous, corporate cityscape, it helps us remember that this is how it’s actually supposed to be. Also, they had a really dope Ethio Jazz selection and this one Lo Ya Tengo reissue I was looking for, so nice one there as well. You should go give them your money.
Used to go to Music Matters ..glad the new ownership...while changing the name and the store around they kept the same spirit. They still have a good collection of CDs and more vinyl.
Stopped by this record store while strolling through park slope with friends in the area. They had a lot of good things to say about their experiences here and I’m glad we got to pop in. It is very small, but that’s what makes browsing through the records fun. The owner was great and had a lot of good things to say about our purchases. He was also jamming some Sudan Archives in the shop, so what is not to like??
