Newbury Comics Staten Island

Fun shop. They have a lot of manga, but comic books are definitely not a priority at this Newbury Comics location. They do however have a nick and dent graphic novel section which is cool.

With the amount of times ive brought my wife and kids here, today is the last. They sell clothing, but you aren't allowed to try on hoodies. Which, is fine. But the problem i have, is when the employee (the girls with blue/green colored hair), decided to tell us, she basically did it in a drive by manner, instead of properly telling us. So I go up to the front and start asking why? (to the same two girls) does this also means hoodies? I get met with its a policy. Again, fine, so I ask, do yall have signs stating this, they say no but its there policy, again, on repeat. So I say, you should probably get some damn signs up. Apparently, they are so fragile, that, THAT came off "hostile". I'm not sure what kind of employees this company is hiring but with this type of employee response, you are going to lose a ton of customers. Basing off the star rating, I can see its already getting hit hard. 3 years of coming to the same place, never again. This company just lost more. 12/11/25 @12:12pm. The other manager during the night, was great.

This place isn’t the worst but isn’t the best the comic books are over priced for no reason even though I can walk to the 1st floor and go to dollar tree and get comics for cheaper. Most of the employees are rude except 1 or 2 when I had to count my money becuase I don’t carry around large bills. One time I was paying with all ones and the guy stared at me and sighed like I was counting pennys. And every week I went to go check if there was an atom eve funko pop and they said yes but it wasn’t in store and “ it would come next week” next week comes and nothing then I went to GameStop on the 1st floor and they have it I wouldn’t come here unless you want to overpay for comic books.

If you’re here for comics prepare to be disappointed.. barely stocked up and extremely overpriced ($5 extra price with tax.) If you’re here for manga and figures then this is your store, but when promoted as a comic store it’s extremely underwhelming given the tiny comic section that has had the same items for over a month. Staff is okay usually kind but sometimes predominately the woman, but sometimes the men just are rude and will put up a “Not open” sign in your face as you waited in line to go up. It’s mediocre if you wanna get comics just go to the dollar tree on the bottom floor or JHU if you’re located on the island, or even better midtown.

a plushie i wanted to purchase was stained and i couldn’t find another one — the employee at checkout admitted it was stained & offered me 10% off which would have been great, but she didn’t actually do it.
