Kevin and his shop are a MUST VISIT if you're anywhere in the Chicagoland area! The music and gear are meticulously curated and he knows his stuff too! New Vinyl as well as some extremely rare finds! As a musician myself it will be an honor to one day have my record sold here. (Also bonus points for having the Smiths in the front window display 😁)
I love the vibe of this place! The owner is so friendly and really engaged in getting you what you need and providing great suggestions. The selection is well curated and has a lot of variety. I enjoy just hanging out here and just browsing. It’s not tight and crammed in like some record shops instead it’s open and has that 90s cd/record store vibe I’ve missed before those stores were crushed by sterile options like Barnes and Noble. Definitely worth several visits! Highly recommend!!
Just got some amazing soul records that were cheaper than on Amazon. I’ve gotten brand new and used records here. The people complaining about pricing or selection are just complainers - it’s a vinyl store, you have to visit regularly to snatch good records, inventory is always changing. Highly recommend.
I was kicked out of the store for not buying anything after perusing the vinyl collection. I've never experienced that in any vinyl shop ever, very rude and bizarre. I was interested in quite a few records but unfortunately the vast majority of 'new' vinyls were grossly overpriced. Edit: was the sole person in the shop for 40 minutes* and wasn't interested in paying $40 for $20 records. Must've struck a nerve :(
I was walking around highland park with some friends when we came across K-SOLO. I've been collecting records since Christmas (where I got my first record player), so I'm relatively new to the hobby with about 8-10 records right now. The store is PERFECT for expanding my collection. The vintage vinyls range from around 5-15 dollars, many of them being 5. I believe that the vinyls are thoroughly cleaned, so the sound quality is great. The newer records are slightly more on the pricey side, but the range of variety completely makes up for it. Another cool feature is that there is a listening room, where you can test any vinyls before purchasing. This is a really cool feature, because before I left I picked out a random record from the vintage section and gave it a test listen, and I now know about the legend that was Al Jarreau! Kevin, the owner, is super knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I asked him for recommendations on some good background jazz music, and the record he suggested for me is absolutely fantastic. Do not be afraid to talk to him, because he knows essentially everything there is to know about music. PLEASE do not waste the opportunity to drop by this store if you love music and are around the highland park area.
