The place is packed floor to ceiling with vinyl, CDs, and cassettes. Neon signs and retro vibe make it feel like stepping back in time. Selection is huge across all genres - rock, jazz, folk, country, you name it. Prices are reasonable and there’s a vintage clothing section in back with band tees. It’s organized well enough but you’ll want to spend time digging. They also have stools which is clutch when you’re going through the lower racks. Cash only for some purchases under a certain amount so bring bills.
I stop by this store whenever I'm in Central Square, and it's always a great experience. I can't speak on vinyl, but I love going through and picking up a couple of CDs every once in a while. The staff have all been kind to me, which I am grateful for since I have really bad social phobia, so going out in public (especially to stores) is difficult for me. I am never stressed when I stop by here, and I always either go home with something I like, or I leave the store empty-handed, but feeling calmer. It's a nice place. They have a good selection in there.
An excellent selection - the $1 45s boxes are well worth hunting through. One of the best record stores in Boston for more than 4 decades.
The stock of vinyls is great, good variety of old and new. The T-shirts are fun to look through and you can usually find something good. But what makes Cheapo Records special are the employees. On Easter Sunday ‘25 the person at the register went above and beyond. Incredible customer service and care.
I was scrolling through Boston and came across this hidden gem, had many great vinyls I would buy if I had a machine.
