Just a short drive north from the Oakland airport, Beaker is a MUST stop for record enthusiasts! A small shop named after the owner's four-legged friend, had a surprising number of hard‑to‑find metal records. Mixed in was plenty of bargains for those starting their journey. I learned a lot from Gordon, the owner, as we discussed bands all-over the genre map. While I struggled to decide which record to buy, he spun a rare 45 from a regional band long lost to time which turned this visit into a memorable experience. One of the best spots for vinyl in the East Bay. -Record Stores Across America
The owner, Gordon was very friendly and knowledgable - like deep cuts knowledge, across several genres, which he shared generously. The collection was well curated, and had some real standouts as well as some classics. All were in good condition and reasonably priced. I came for the free bin. I walked out with a bunch of free records and a rare Tony Levin solo album still shrinkwrapped.
Record stores have always sort of left me disappointed. Boring selections and expensive prices have me leaving every record store having found nothing interesting and spending $10 more than I should have to "support a local business." With this in mind, Beaker's Records is unique in that the prices are more than fair and the store is filled with records I thought I would never find in person. First time I've left a record shop feeling happy and wanting to visit again. Best record store in California especially for those interested in more niche genres and artists.
Never been to the store but was able to have something shipped and was very happy. Graded accurately, priced very fair, and mailed with a whiplash. Perfect! Rock on!
A small shop with with an eclectic selection of curated albums. Defiantly worth digging through every nook and cranny in search of hidden gems. He's got plenty to go through and its all really good stuff. Even the bargain records are better than your average dollar finds! Shop proprietor is friendly and knowledgeable with an overall exuberance for music and all of its facets. Next time I visit Alameda a trip back to this store will be high on the list of to dos. Go check him out, his prices are quite fair too boot too.
