They have vinyls (as well as CDs and a few cassettes) of a lot of good artists, and they're in good shape. A lot better quality and selection than you'll see compared to a Goodwill or other 2nd hand places. Some are a bit spendy, speedy, but still great selection and quality.
I've been a customer of this shop since about 2001, and I absolutely love it. The owner is fantastic—always easy-going and incredibly knowledgeable about music.
Bought a used record online several states away, they had great communication throughout the entire process. The shipping was quick and vinyl arrived safely. The condition of the vinyl was better than they described online too, it was a great purchase! I had been looking for this vinyl for months in good condition and reasonable price; Vortex Records beat all expectations.
found a 100 gecs album!! never found one in a record store before 😘 the shop owner was also rly nice and knew the music which was cool. there was also good music playing in the background AND they have other cool stuff besides records and CDs like keychains, shirts and posters !! 👍👍👍👍
When it comes to small town places, its usually hit or miss when it comes to quality storefronts due mostly to the shop owners unwillingness to change bad qualities they have or by changing so much, they may as well be a Walmart. It's a balance between those you want. The Vortex still has the atmosphere of a record shop from the 70s or 80s, when records were in their (original) prime. Now that records have made a significant comeback, its fantastic to experience a place like this. It's a smaller space, but what they do have is quality and expertise. My first experience here was Record Store Day 2019 and it definitely won't be my last visit. I was impressed. The array of available records and the ease of searching is exactly what you're looking for and I hope it will feel a lot better supporting a local independent shop than it does for you to support the big guys. Stop in and browse. You'll love it.
