Best store in Raleigh, consistently the same people to deal with who are well educated about music/recordings, and they pay fair for used vinyl. Great selection of cheap stuff to try and rare stuff to aspire to own. This is a record shop with cool people that know and have the good vintage stuff. I am a big fan.
It was as if I didn’t exist when I walked in. I was not acknowledged at all, and at first I thought maybe that was just their vibe, letting customers browse without being approached. However, shortly after, two other people walked in and were immediately greeted and asked if they needed help. I’ve lived long enough to know that if I’m not valued as a potential customer, I won’t return and I won’t be. I’ve been an avid vinyl buyer and collector since the 1970s and was genuinely looking to add to my collection. There are far too many other options available. I felt it was worth leaving my two cents to explain why I won’t be coming back. Update* Yes I came in Saturday asking for Teddy Pendergrass and I reiterate, I was not greeted, I had to initiate and ask and I was nonchalantly pointed in the direction of just look there or over there. Maybe, there, perhaps there, when everyone else got greeted, helped, conversation walked over and direction for what they needed. I'm just stating the vibe I got and how I felt from the customer service I DID NOT RECEIVE. I was going to vlog about the service I received or didn't and chose the high road. I've lived in NC, (Durham /Raleigh) all my life and I have seen business come and go. I just wanted you to be mindful of all customers who come in and out of your establishment and how you can truly try to reach out, help and assist. You just never came from behind the counter or seemed genuinely like you wanted to help.
If you’re visiting Raleigh, Sound Off Records is a must visit. Even if you don’t have a record player it’s worth stopping by for the nostalgia and cool retro items they have for sale. Anna and her 2 pups are so nice and just add to the chill vibe here.
I made the mistake of going in after hours when they were closed but the owner invited us in anyways. I was interested in purchasing a stereo receiver and he stayed and cleaned/tested the entire set up for us all when they were supposed to be closed. The shop is awesome. Attached is the pioneer receiver I got, it's probably 40 years old but is in near factory condition after he worked on it.
This place is amazing. Give yourself enough time to go through all of the records, you won't be disappointed! Nice atmosphere and the owners were so nice! This was our first time here and we were impressed. We will be back!
