I've always loved to shop for music, and the Sound Exchange stores do not disappoint. I was there just yesterday. I took home 2 CDs for 8 bucks. And FYI, the Tampa store has the coolest bathroom in town!
I have been going to Sound Exchange since the early days. I love their ever changing selections of CD’s, DVD’s, Blu-Rays, and vinyl. The Tampa staff has always been nice and easygoing and I have seen many people come and go behind the counter. I have taken things in for cash or credit and have never had any issues. There are bound to be some things they can’t take or don’t want, they only need so many copies of a Madonna or Justin Bieber album or any record that shows signs of being played showing wear. The managers of the store are nice people and fair when you want to sell things. I fully recommend Sound Exchange both in Tampa and in Pinellas Park as places to find the coolest music and movies.
Edit: I also want to clarify that I am not connected to anyone named “Heather Knightly.” I’m a visitor to the area and this review reflects only my personal experience in the store. After seeing the owner’s reply publicly accuse me of being part of a coordinated review effort, I’m lowering my rating by one star. I felt that response was unprofessional and dismissive of honest customer feedback. Original Review: I was really looking forward to checking this place out, but my experience was just okay. They don’t have a display or “wow” wall, and the higher-priced records are kept behind the counter, so it’s difficult to see the condition or quality before deciding whether to ask about them. Many of the records are also sealed with condition cards on the outside, so you’re basically relying on someone else’s grading. Since not everyone agrees on condition standards, I personally prefer to be able to inspect what I’m buying. The staff wasn’t outright rude, but they also didn’t come across as very welcoming or interested in helping. It felt a bit unpersonable, which took away from the experience for me. I also noticed some of the ways they respond to reviews online come across a bit defensive, which matched the vibe I felt in person. Others may not see it that way, but it added to my overall impression. There is a large selection here and some people may really like the way they do things — it just wasn’t quite what I was hoping for.
My friend surprised me today and took me here. He knows I love records and Sound Exchange did not disappoint. The selections are amazing. Every style of music you can think of. Plus all the other fun stuff like cds, action figures and so much more. I had such a great time simply looking through the albums and the store. I picked up a couple albums and can't wait to go back.
You know this used to be a nice record shop but over time the customer service has greatly declined and in turn has turned my view of this shop sour! I guess simply greeting or showing interest in your clients who are making a purchase from the store is not part of the job. I believe coming into this shop is more of a sign of showing local support because we all know you can get these records cheaper online and delivered to your door, so it would be best to at least be polite to your customers as there’s not a whole lot to do In the shop at a basic employee level.. Not sure why I can’t reply to this response, but I’m not affiliated with anyone. Unfortunately your store just has terrible customer service and clearly other people feel the same way.
