I’d leave a “0” star rating if possible due to the TERRIBLE customer service by the manager, Jeremiah. An LP that Silver Platters listed on an online site for $24.29 was available at their Bellevue store, so I went in to purchase it because I live nearby. When I got there, the LP had a price of $29.99. Thinking that there must be a mistake, I asked the clerk at the register if he could adjust the price to reflect their online listing and he referred me to Jeremiah, the manager, who preferred to argue about “frictionless transactions online” (versus the apparent “friction transaction” of buying it in one of their stores). He couldn’t grasp that: they’re all being sold by the same company - Silver Platters; the cost TO Silver Platters is the same at every location, but the PRICE they are charging apparently varies by location; his argument that his price was $0.29 less (because, of course, I would have to pay $5.99 shipping by buying it online) was illogical since I DIDN’T NEED SHIPPING; and, finally, the damage he was doing to the company’s reputation was going to cost far more than a piddly discount. I used to shop at Silver Platters regularly, and have been a customer since they opened 40 years ago, but not only will this be my last purchase from them, it’s now my mission to spread the word about how bad their customer service is. It’s a shame to see a formerly great local retailer fall so badly - no wonder I was the only customer and the store was empty.
Honestly this is one of the few stores that I've truly wanted to go to as a child. It's been music stores and then of course Fry's electronics which sadly shut down recently
Really kind, helpful staff who helped me track down three CDs I should have been able to find but somehow missed (clearly was not looking carefully enough). Staff is always pleasant every visit, store is well organized. Would highly recommend supporting this local record store, I try and stop in whenever I'm looking for a new release! :)
The staff here were strangely unwelcoming. I tried to spark conversation with one who was wearing a shirt from a band that recently performed with the same band of the shirt I was wearing, and I got a REAL cold shoulder. The two at checkout were no different. I'm not looking to have a whole dialogue or be a nuisance, but I would expect workers to be... I don't know, somewhat friendly? The organization here sucks, and it was very difficult to find anything I was looking for. Once I finally found an artist I was looking for, the album you would hope was there never was. Why group "Pop" and "Rock" together, two of the biggest and most relevant genres, and have it take up half the store? Wouldn't it make sense to separate those? I found that super confusing. And why is the whole back wall "New Age"? The New Age section and a lot of what this store has is akin to what you'd find in a Goodwill. Josh Groban and a bunch of other contemporary stuff that people who buy CDs or Vinyls do not care about. I genuinely got a headache being here and didn't feel great spending my money here either. That's very unfortunate for a spot that really only needs to exist, hold music items, and maybe play some decent tunes. Brick & mortar stores are hard to keep open nowadays, and especially so for a store selling physical audio media. I don't see this one staying above water for much longer if this kind of experience is commonplace. You're much better off going to a one-off mom & pop store.
This place has a pretty varied selection of CDs, which is what I shop here for. It's nothing special outside of that. For the most part the new CDs are priced at 10-15 dollars and seem to be supplied by the labels/publishers, so that price range is pretty fair. They don't have too many used CDs and the used CDs they do have are usually about 5-7 dollars but in good condition. They have a lot of old music but also so much modern music which is pretty nice. If you're tired of seeing CD stores with guns n roses, greatest hits albums, and Kenny G records then it might be worth hitting up Silver Platters
