What can I say? One of the worst experiences of my life. I bought three vinyl records there, and I have never in my life felt so humiliated or treated so badly by anyone. The guy who works there is not only rude but also disrespectful, ill-mannered, and arrogant; he doesn't know how to treat people. I can't even talk about the music or the place itself because I definitely don't plan on going back. A word of advice: if you don't have the patience or the attitude to deal with the public, you should work somewhere else where you don't see people.
Great little hole in the wall record shop in Astoria, NYC. The owners are passionate about music, very friendly and accommodating. I wish we had a shop like this in Staten Island. Good luck to Pancake Records and I hope that they thrive and grow.
Nice little shop in Astoria. Found some records that we have been looking for forever back home in NC (The Mars Volta's Amputecture and the new Georgie Greep album) I even purchased a comedy classic that my dad and I listened too all the time as a kid - Bob and Doug McKenzie The Great White North!! I had never seen it on vinyl and it was in perfect condition and the clerk mentioned while I was purchasing, that he knew this wouldn't last long. Can't wait to get home and listen on vinyl! Take off, hoser!!!
Here are a few reasons why this store is amazing. 1. As many reviews confirm, the selection is fantastic. I was surprised to see so many of my favorite albums that I couldn't find anywhere else. They have a wide array of genres and styles, including music from other countries. 2. Although it's narrow, it has a very unique and exotic vibe. The aesthetic of the store catches your eye, and it's also really cool to just look around as well. 3. The prices are amazing. Most vinyl stores I went to are super overpriced, but Pancakes Records has some great albums that are $15 and under. Even the rare ones that are normally really expensive at other places are less here. But does that mean the quality isn't as good? Nope, they still sound amazing! I believe that Pancakes Records is truly a hidden gem in New York City, and I'm 100% coming back for more albums!
The nastolgia of flipping through and looking at old records is so fun. Huge section of records and the staff is super helpful if your on the fence about your picks. So fun, you gotta check out pancake records.
