I write this after a string of reviews in Japan mostly about food. During my time there I experienced shopping for records in Japan at their many shops. I can comfortably say that their record shops are the best I've ever been to and the only place in the US that truly matches that same record shop enjoyment is Open Mind Music. The owner and his friends (and or team as it's hard because they blur that line nicely) are supremely knowledgeable and passionate about music in all it's forms. I've been shopping here since early 2025 and have always enjoyed looking for something I've been looking for or taking a flyer on some new random music. Even if you aren't planning on buying and just want to look at some beautifully organized albums in pristine condition this is the place. If you get a chance chat with the owner about music and you'll see why it's called Open Mind because he truly has an Open Mind when it comes to the world of music.
This space has the perfect vibe for an immersive shopping experience! A turntable played a record (no streaming here!) while I went from bin to bin, many with cleverly labeled genre descriptions. Tediously curated, it was refreshing to see many album covers I was not familiar with. The space was small but not cramped, 45 minutes went by but felt like 5. Cheers and happy hunting!
This record store could use Notorious James -Stop Talking New single as merch. Checout Audveo new sells marketing strategy.
Great selection of new & used vinyls, cds & cassettes. Found a few new Black Friday RSDs (Billie & Noah!) and a great 80s throwback. Thanks for the treats for our ween & letting us give Roxanne some pets. We will definitely be back!
We were strolling down College Avenue looking in the windows of different shops. We felt invited into Open Mind Music with it's colorful rainbow rug, and Dutch door open at the top. There were large paintings and posters thoughtfully placed on the walls. Jazz was softly playing on the record player on the left side of the store. It felt so comfortable being their space. We were greeted by Monica who was dressed in gently faded denim bell bottoms with a matching shirt. She looked like she had stepped out of the early 70s while organizing LPs in the oak bins. Everything looked orderly and clean. Some of the LPs were brand new, and others looked like they were barely used. Looking for vintage or new release LPs? Open Mind Music is a great place to check out.
