They have a great selection, in fact an almost overwhelming selection, and the woman who works there is really nice. Prices are pretty much what you would expect, but the experience of actually leafing through great vinyl at a local store is priceless.
If you're doing a crawl of East Bay vinyl shops this needs to be at the top of your list. Large enough used CD collection to get lost in too.
My "secret weapon" record store that keeps my record collection hip and growing. Mod Lang is small, privately owned (female owned at that!) and able to order anything I want. The true vinyl collectors know this place well. The kiddies and bandwagon jumping, trend followers who buy their vinyl at Urban Outfitters and their band shirts at Target because it's the cool thing to collect right now haven't bothered to discover this pace. There's not a Jay Z or Beyonce album to be found here. Which is as it should be.
OUT OF BUSINESS? I have no choice but to give this place one star. I have now been there *four* times during business hours only to find the place locked up tighter than Miles Davis' rhythm section. I see the posted business hours, my watch is correct, through the window I can see records in the darkness, so I know I have the right address (also the sign out front says "Mod Lang"). I think this place is out of business, but they just haven't made it official. Illness? Death? I hope not...
This store has a bunch of awesome records and music and some really nice rare stuff in good shape. The staff is quite helpful and inviting. I would definitely recommend this store :)
