Okay soooooo I really really wanted to like this shop, but right away found myself disappointed and not feeling inclined to explore the vinyl. Yes it's divided up by genre, but the organization is terrible outside of the largest "rock" section that faces the register. Even that wasn't actually organized outside of the few marked artists and the alphabet markers, but look past that and you'll find it's just messy. Also, like if you don't have anything by the marked artists - maybe pull the marker??? Sure that artist starts with a P but why do I find the same album in 3 different places within this pretty big letter category? No thank you. Their used vinyl looked like there's lots of good finds, but again the lack of actual organization beyond thee very few markers just wasn't there in a way that made it feel shoppable for me. Giving a three star review because I did go check out the website and found it easier to explore their selection from their because I can actually alphabetize it for real and sort other ways 😬 otherwise it was gonna be a 2 and that's largely because I wanted to like it so bad. There's other more shoppable record stores in this city which bums me out to say a little bit.
Stopped in yesterday to visit Mint Gallery Records for the first time. What a great store! It has everything I look for in a record store - a well curated selection of both new and used records, well organized, fairly priced, brightly lit, easy to browse and a friendly, knowledgeable staff. I enjoyed meeting and talking with Luke and walked out with a terrific selection of records. Will visit again, whenever we’re in the Mississippi neighborhood!
Stopped in today to check out this newer place in one of my favorite Portland neighborhoods and I was not disappointed! Had a great chat with one of the owners named Luke and was able to find a few gems in their sea of amazing options. The decor is hip, and there is a gallery inside of the vinyl shop. They have cassette tapes and even some CDs. Overall, a really wonderful selection and a very spacious store. Highly recommended for people who want to find some new things to bring some fresh music into their lives. They had new stuff as well as old stuff and a bargain bin with records for three bucks. They buy stuff too if you are looking to swap old stuff out of your collection. I’ll be back soon! A great addition to an amazing hood we call Mississippi.
This is a gem of a record store with a serious collection, good rotation, and sweet art and posters to boot. MG does our community a great service. Don't forget to check out the front of the store for upcoming local shows. Check out the opening nights of the art shows here. It's a dope spot without a doubt! Shout out to Luke and his friend for playing an awesome DJ set at Dream House Bar as well.
Mint Gallery Records is an absolute welcome addition to the collection of fine record shops we have in Portland. Super happy. I was there on their second day of opening. The selection is a finely curated mix of stuff and the prices are totally fair. I will be visiting regularly. The 7" collection is great. I only have one suggestion: Please don't put the price labels right on the record sleeve. Other than that, I wish nothing but success for yet another awesome record shop in PDX! This is a great one.
