If you're in Kansas City and shopping for vinyl, this is basically one of the only places you want to go to. It's local, it's diverse, and you can always find a treasure. If they had a coffee shop inside, it'd be damn near perfect.

Great selection. Great staff. Great old school record shop vibe. The place to go if you’re picking up something new and they have a huge selection of rare stuff that’s fun to flip through. My biggest issue is all their used LPs are way too pricey. I get they have to run a brick and mortar and have to keep the lights on, but I always get bummed out flipping through used LPs and there’s literally nothing sub-$20. Vinyl Renaissance had the exact same problem. Maybe I just got spoiled by Love Garden whose used LP prices are much more consumer friendly.

Every single time I've entered this record store I've faced an unpleasant experience with the owner of this store. She always has a condescending and egotistical attitude towards everyone, including the staff, and it makes everyone extremely uncomfortable. I would highly recommend Josey's records to anyone over this place simply based on this fact, along with their prices. I went to buy a vinyl that had a signed insert from them and continued to get lectured that it wasn't signed and that it was in fact an "autograph".... which makes literally zero difference linguistically. This is merely an example of the multitude of times I've been in this record store and been belittled by staff. Another instance most recently, was during RSD 2025, when I was holding my partners record which happened to be the same record I was getting (which we were both going to purchase seperately) for at most 30 seconds while they browsed only to hear her scream at me from the other side of the store asking how many records I was holding because "she really wanted one" herself. Rather than approaching me and simply asking like a normal human being if I was aware of their one per person policy (even though we were purchasing it seperately), she decided to go on her own presumptuous mission to publicly embarrass me by making a petty comment. I've been multiple times and something like this has come from every time I've been, if not happening to me, happening to the people I'm with, or other individuals shopping in the store. It's just truly a disappointing business practice to be so rude, condescending, and presumptuous this consistently. I understand having a bad day but my lord why does this owner insist in making their customers feel so belittled. This is not high school this is a place of business. The vibes in this store are just off.... from the moment you walk in you're greeted with a bag rule, a sign to not interact with the dog at all, and records that are literally padlocked behind bars. A record store should not feel like you're going through TSA just to go shopping. Anyways rant over, you can see countless other reviews of instances in which this same induvial (an older lady with white hair) consistently treating everyone like garbage for literally zero reason. I sincerely hope they figure this out or undergo new management because the way she treats people is simply not okay.

My family and I stopped in while we were visiting KCMO from STL! My husband wanted to check out the book selection and was pleasantly surprised by what he found! Maggie was very helpful with a Jazz book and made friends with our kids! We got a sticker and my 3 year old (also named Maggie) put it on her cup immediately! Love from my Maggie to another - ❤️

I really liked this record store. This was the best one amongst the record stores that I visited while I was in KC. A frailty large jazz collection with some great finds. I found their grading and pricing to be extremely fair but n used records. Definitely recommend!
