On just my second day ever in California, I couldn’t wait to explore a local record shop. Since we were staying near Carlsbad Beach, we headed to the closest one—and wow, am I glad we did! Between the amazing vinyl and CD selection, I nearly lost it when I spotted copies of CREEM magazine. As an NYU journalism grad with a focus on music and culture, I was beyond stoked. The prices were fair, the vibes were immaculate, and my husband and I were chatting with Mike like old friends before we left. Honestly, it was the best record store experience I’ve ever had, and I used to work at one! This East Coast girl gives Love Bus Records a 10 out of 10.
My friends and I met up in Carlsbad and had the best time thanks to Love Bus Tours. Mike, our tour guide, showed us places in San Diego we’d never seen or heard of: beautiful views from peaceful perches, classic and nostalgic local secrets - all while giving us historical and local insights. When we wanted to grab a bite or taste local wines, Mike recommended the best places and was our designated driver…and the music in Mike’s VW bus was our perfect soundtrack.
Sweet shop off a quiet street near Carlsbad Village with a wide variety of records, cassettes, and CDs! It is easy to miss, since it's tucked into trees and looks homey from the outside. Peaceful spots outside to sit and visit while enjoying the music. Mike welcomed us in and was happy to chat music, culture, and travel with us. Much of his sales go towards the purchase of books that he shares freely with the community. Prices were very reasonable for the cassettes we purchased. Glad we found this little hole-in-the-wall!
was walking around Carlsbad for a Sunday and found this store on Google Maps. I love this spot! it’s in what looks like a home, set up beautifully, and has an awesome section for what mike thinks everyone should have. i’m really into anything rock and it’s packed with records that I usually have to sift through stores for maybe one or two finds. I got this first pressing Continuum for a great price, as well as a pre-release Ozzy Flying High again and bark of the moon montage. Super great finds, I’ll be back (by myself :)) to comb through everything. Its a real gem with great character, great selection, and frankly very generous (to the buyer) pricing.
Happened upon this store today with my SO and had an incredible time. Lucked out with a few records, stickers, and friends. What more do you need?? Just GO. Also, they got an eBay store and really good cause :) 👍
