Located in Bow Market which is cool because you can grab food and drinks while you shop. They have a 10-foot bar and serve cocktails which is different. Good selection with a focus on dance and electronic stuff. The store does weekly events and has a Kids 45 Club subscription which is cute. Prices are decent and the atmosphere is laid back. Sometimes they bring crates outside for open-air shopping during market events. Only downside is it can get crowded when Bow Market is busy.

I wish I could give them a million stars! Found out about Vinyl Index through my searching for a D’Angelo tribute night. I am huge fan of his and I wanted to find anywhere that was doing something to honor him. I was told that this place was doing a tribute night playing all of his records. The staff are so friendly and informative about the music they are selling. They have a few seats by the bar where you can order drinks. Super cool record store in a great location! Bow Market is such a cool little market square. Bow Market is all about small businesses and artists. It’s located right by Union Square (Green Line). The tribute night was amazing. The vibes were immaculate and it was a great way to connect with fellow D’Angelo fans. We got to laugh, cry, dance and vibe all night. I was able to browse around their entire collection and bought a record since I am starting to DJ. I came here for a tribute night but they have a lifelong customer out of me! I will be back to buy more records.

After going to three other record stores around Boston today, I can safely say vinyl index was the cleanest and most comprehensive selection of records, not just new releases, but amazing older vinyl, some less known and some sought after. Aaron at the counter was super helpful and full of music knowledge. Highly recommend vinyl index to anyone looking for a quality shop with quality people (plus they have cocktails, how cool is that?!).

Fun store surrounded by bars with lots of newer Indie and Hip Hop Selection *Used/New/Reissue - 4/5 Lots of new and reissue. Used selection is there, but not the main event. *Variety - 3.5/5 Focus seems to be on a lot of bands/artists I don't know, meaning probably geared to a younger crowd.(which is not a bad thing) Good selection of indie - I did recognize Screaming Females and Rainbow Kitten Surprise. There is some of your typical rock and 80s. *Other formats - Didn't notice much, may have missed. Pricing *Used 4/5 - Very reasonably priced, plenty of under $10 options *New/Reissue 3/5 - Looked slightly better than the suggested retail price Atmosphere *Organization 4/5 - Very easy to find stuff. *Knowledge - I was there early (11 AM) and as i said, I did not know a lot of the music, so not much discussion. I am sure they know their stuff, but I would need to study a bit before my next visit. *Special - 5/5 - Restaurants and bars surround place, they serve drinks in store Wed-Sun. Also special events, including DJs, calendar online. Hip shop, with lots of new artists. Looks like a fun atmosphere. Probably a great place to hang out and find some new bands to listen to.
