I love coming here. It's not as cool as Mohawk Music was, but they have a section dedicated to local music along with a massive collection of everything else.
Nice shop. Friendly staff and good selection. My taste is music is apparently hard to find in vinyl. More Christian artists need to produce some vinyl albums.
Lots of new and used good condition records. I came looking for some LPs my son wanted for Christmas and two other amazing and selfless customers helped me with my search. They saved Christmas! Great sense of community here.
I came in today to sell some records around 11:30, but the girl who I sold them to at the counter was honestly pretty rude. I was trying to be nice, ask how her day was and just be friendly, but she kept side eyeing me and stumbling out her words of “it’s okay??? i guess???” and looked at me like I had been the problem for asking a question out of courtesy. I had also said that I liked her eyeliner (as I also had winged eyeliner on) and just said “okay.” I just wanted to be nice and diffuse whatever bad vibe that was there. I was trying to be a girls girl. I had the vibe that she was trying to avoid me, she would roll her eyes at me and just seemed mad that I was there in the first place. She seemed appalled I even spoke to her. I’ve worked 3 years in retail, and I totally understand not vibing with some customers, having a rough day to begin with and just not feeling it, but this was straight out the gate. My husband has lived in the area his whole life and hyped up this record store, and I was very excited to check it all out. I actually had a specific album (Ethel Cain - Preachers Daughter) in mind to look for, but I just didn’t feel comfortable even looking around. I just felt very unwelcome and awkward. They have a nice selection of records, some I was considering buying this visit, but after how I was treated I don’t think I’m coming back. What a shame. -UPDATE!!!- The manager John had given me a call to follow up, and that really impressed me! He gave me some more insight on what had happened, and was extremely nice. We all have bad days and things come up, so I appreciate being reached out to. I hope all goes well for the girl I interacted with earlier today. Thank you!!!!
As I was venturing through Tulsa, I accidentally stumbled upon Josey Records and I am soo glad I did. The store is located within the Pearl Shops directly on Rt. 66! This store seemed to have a phenomenal selection in music with a wide variety to choose from. You'll be sure to find what appeals to you personally. Most vinyls I viewed were used and priced under $10. I also had my child with me and he even discovered the Disney selection which we thought was super cool. Soo when I say they have a little bit of everything for anyone... they really do! My only complaint would have to be is not being greeted once. The store was not super busy, although there were a couple other people in there. It was just disappointing not to have been spoken to at all by a single employee and the lack of hospitality. I would have probably bought a few vinyls (even though I was not out shopping for music) had I felt welcomed. Overall, I do think the store has a great selection of music and plenty to rummage through. I do plan on returning, as it could have just been a bad day for the workers. I just hope the employees are more welcoming next time. But I'd definitely recommend this shop to anyone who's musically inclined.
