This is a huge record store, you need a fair few hours to browse through, there is a huge $1-$2 section with rows & rows of used vinyl,a lot of quantity lacking the quality as most are unorganized and some organized and there is potential for nice finds if you’re patient, I was looking for African music despite the huge selection they had less than 20 records, which was a shame.
5plus Stars. I love this place. A never ending vinyl albums and OMG tons of posters. I had no idea what to buy my son for Christmas, after going to countless stores I didn't find anything, so as to stop wasting time, glad I thought of Josey Records. I came home with 2 tshirts of his fav bands. Got me some pins to put in my hat and asked if they had car decals. She gave me two.
This was our first time visiting Josey Records, and unfortunately it will be our last. My little cousin and I were browsing the store when he needed to use the restroom. We asked a staff member where the men’s restroom was, and they vaguely pointed toward a corner. When we walked over, we saw a men’s restroom with an “Out of Order” sign and a women’s restroom next to it. Since we were new and confused, my cousin briefly opened the men’s restroom door, assuming there might be multiple stalls or another option, especially since a staff member had directed us there. Suddenly, a man came out from the back who did not look like staff at all (regular shorts and a T-shirt) and immediately became aggressive and rude, asking us why we used the restroom. Even after we calmly explained that another employee had pointed us there and that it was an honest mistake - we were not going to use it, he continued to rant, escalate the situation, and use vulgar and disrespectful language toward us. His reaction was completely unnecessary. I stood up for us and explained again that we were confused. We are new to the store, but instead of de-escalating, he became even more hostile. We went to the front and told another staff member what happened, but they offered no help at all. The same man then approached us again, continued ranting, and told us to leave. As we walked out, he followed us outside, continuing to harass us and saying, “I’m going to tell you who I really am,” repeatedly in a very threatening tone. I pulled out my phone to record, and only then did he suddenly stop and walk back inside. This was an extremely uncomfortable, hostile, and unacceptable experience, especially for a first visit. No customer should be treated this way over an honest mistake, especially when staff instructions contributed to the confusion. This behavior shows a lack of professionalism and self-control. I will not be returning and will be sharing this experience publicly. Management seriously needs to address how customers are treated here. Don’t let anyone disrespect you. Stand up for yourself! - if you see this man, beware.
If you want records, they have lots of them. I set a budget of $100 before I went in and wound up spending double that. The reason, I found so many records I was missing from my collection. I would have given them 5 stars, but I was a little disappointed in the customer service. When I walked in, since it was my first time there, I asked where I could find my style of music. The answer I received was "back there behind the 45s someplace." I did eventually find it, but it took a little time. Will definitely be back to add to the collection.
Giant store, tons of used vinyl (in various conditions). Not sorted very specific but good enough (makes some niche stuff harder to find). Took me a minute to discover the "New" sections actually have a mix of sealed and pre-owned records ("new" seams to just mean everything manufactured after 1990). They do have a large amount of actual new (still factory sealed) records, but that's not what I go out hunting for. Great shop, Only complaint is that the turn tables that are out to demo records are in very rough shape. Most have the heads taped on and the channels will sometimes cut in and out. Some don't hold speed, some don't work at all. They seem only good to check for major warps and scratches, not for overly pleasurable listening. That said everything I bought used sounded very good on my home setup. Even the stuff that had really badly damaged jackets had VG+ or better vinyl inside. Can't wait to come back in a couple months and dig through all the New Arrivals again.
