Had a great experience here on multiple occasions. In particular, Sage and J really helped me out! J is very knowledgeable about records and is always helpful when asking questions about records and Sage helped me out when I had an issue with one of my purchases and is really friendly and also very helpful. I really hope this place is successful as it would be great to have around long term in Springfield. Thanks again! (P.S. if anyone is interested in getting started on records please take my advice and avoid the cheap one hundred dollar table that comes with speakers and go for one of the audio-technica ones!)
as a record and vinyl collector, this is now one of my favorite stores in the mall! i found almost everything i was looking for. (i’ll definitely be back to hopefully find some NSYNC, haha) i love that they had everything from vintage 1930s to modern day rap and pop CD’s and vinyls. their selection is great and they had a ton of band/artist merch too. my friend with completely opposite music taste even found some stuff. this store is great for ANYONE who enjoys music, as they have a little bit of everything!
This place is like stepping back in time! I felt like a kid again! As soon as you walk in the store the familiar smell of old records hits you. They have a little bit of everything. They have vinyl records, new and old, cds, band shirts and hoodies. My kids and I loved it!
The store doesnt appear on the mall map yet, but it's back near the food court next to a store called Earthbound. The organization of vinyls wasnt great, but CDs were sorted alphabetically by band which was helpful. They want an arm and a leg for a lot of their stock (this Pantera CD set can be found on Amazon for 15-20 bucks,) but I was able to find several metal records I had been clamoring for. If you're into hard rock/metal, this is a must visit. Update: their price tag stickers also leave a lot of residue on cases/shrink wrap.
Joe’s Records in Springfield is a well-organized shop at first glance, though its approach to genre classification is, shall we say, generous. Categories are treated more as suggestions than boundaries, and one should be prepared to browse neighboring sections to find what one is actually looking for. Persistence is part of the experience. The new jazz section is dismal, offering maybe 10 titles max, while the used jazz bins are oversaturated with titles that never quite belonged there in the first place—a problem traceable to the same liberal sorting philosophy. By contrast, the shop leans heavily into rock and metal, where the selection is deep and confidently stocked. There is also a decent showing of new country, for those so inclined. Prices are fair. Most of the inventory consists of standard pressings, though an audiophile release does occasionally surface for the attentive browser. Joe’s Records rewards those willing to look around and adjust expectations. It may not serve every taste equally well, but it knows its strengths and prices them honestly.
