Would’ve loved to go again if they didn’t overcharge for used records. Bought a Derek and the Dominoes record and it said 34.99. It was used and I didn’t want to pay for 45 on the new so I did that. When I got home I tried to peel the sticker off and found that they raised the price of a used record from 18.99 usually, to 34.99. Just a normal pressing. No reason to increase price. Should’ve just peeled the original sticker while you were at it. Look at Discogs while you’re at it to avoid getting screwed over. Some artists aren’t in their right genre section. Funk and soul aren’t the same thing.

Wow! Now this is a great record store! Huge selection, well cataloged and sorted. I found Jazz, Blues, Pop/Rock albums for my small vinyl collection. Nice that they have books and CDs (and other stuff) too. Only two issues keep it from being 5 Stars. One: parking is scarce - I had to find a place a block away. And two: Prices (for what I wanted) were a bit higher than I had hoped... probably just me being new in the market. As a comparison; I bought 6 records for about $100 at a smaller store (2 new 4 used) in Kent, and payed $180 for 5 records (3 new 2 used) here. Now two of those were double albums. Its tough to run a brick and mortar anywhere! I'll definitely go back to High Voltage as soon as my budget can afford another trip. I know I'll find something great and I love supporting an independent store!

Five stars doesn't begin to express the quality of this shop. Large selection of everything you could ever want to listen to. The blues and country sections were extremely well stocked as was the heavy metal. Prices were realistic unlike most shops out here and they had a bargain section to boot. I will definitely make a point to stop in when I'm in Tacoma from now on.

I miss being able to walk into record stores and peruse the selection so when I saw this place I just had to go in. They had a pretty good selection, especially vinyl (though I don't own a record player). The place was great, though it saddened me a little (this is not the store's fault at all). My musical tastes are varied and eclectic, and in my younger days record stores were a great place to discover new artists that weren't Billboard 100. Most of what they sell is used so it's based on what people bring in, and based on the inventory, people are by and large pretty pedestrian in their tastes. I'm not trying to be elitist, listen to what you want to listen to. It just made me sad to realize exactly what we've lost in the transition to digital. Anyway, I still plan on going back from time to time because you never know when you'll find that gem, and it's always worth it to support these types of stores. Who knows, maybe we'll start seeing these again. Wouldn't that be lovely?

Super rad store. We were expecting records but also found new and used books as well as cool merch. A little busy and overwhelming to look through the records and I’ll always wish the aisles were bigger so disabled people like myself can sit and flip through, but I know this is typical of music stores anyway. Oh well! At least there were no steps to get inside!
