I have been frequenting Half Moon Records for the past 5 years. Bob and Pete are very honest buyers and would recommend to anyone looking to downsize their collection. The vinyl is clean and well organized. The genres deep and have a surprisingly wide selection. Prices are fair and consistent with the resurgence in vinyl.
Let me state that I’ve been a loyal customer since they opened in 2015 and finally writing a review. My family truly loves having a local record shop with the best selection in the Hudson Valley right on our Main St. The store still feels like a hidden gem as it is not well known as Darkside or other nearby shops. Pete and Bob are helpful and kind. The records are alphabetical by genre and easy to find. There is no “goodwill junk” here. Prices vary, but there is something for every price point. I have come in and spent in the triple digits and other times four dollars and walked away happy.
Pleasantly surprised by this gem tucked away in Cold Spring. I usually go to Hudson Valley Vinyl and was told of Half Moon Records. It was busy so I didn’t get to see everything. But I picked up a nice original pressing of Jolene. I plan on going back during a week day.
Decent selection but overpriced. As vinyl is readily available online (Discogs, eBay, Amazon), I don't know how a store like this expects to survive at these prices. I saw numerous titles I was interested in but wasn't tempted to buy any given the prices. Was in there for an hour and walked out empty handed. I like to support local stores but can't recommend this one
Very very overpriced. Absurdly so. I should have anticipated that a record store in Cold Spring would try to take advantage of tourists but for local shopping (hey we live here too) the prices here are embarrassing. Many are marked up by over 100%. The two records in the images are just two examples. The Gene Ammons (orange cover) is marked at 59.99. Even though it's a 1st or 2nd pressing, it's in VG condition making it worth about $20. The Brubeck is a 70s era reissue priced at $29.99 which sells for about $15 at best. Everything was priced this way. Even dollar bin vocalists were priced at about $10. New albums are priced at least $10 over list. Ridiculous
