Wandered into this store accidentally and discovered a wonderful gem of a store. Doug was busy helping an older woman find her favorite Johnny Cash album she was looking for. He was able to help me find some extremely rare Blues and Jazz albums I was interested in. This store is organized and very immaculate with an immense collection of music. One of the best experiences I’ve had in quite some time. Doug and the Staff are top notch folks… Definitely worth the visit!
Such a great record store. They have everything you can think of here and the aesthetic is next level. When you’re here be sure to ask for Doug! This man deserves TWO raises! Doug delivered exceptional customer service with engaged searching alongside us through rows of vinyls for a new must have addition to your collection, while sharing exceptional storytelling about the artists and albums. Be sure to stop here during your travels in Eureka and say hello to Doug. (:
Came in as a tourist and found a deep selection of blues, hip hop, rock, and more! The music played by the staff was unique and inviting and they were very friendly and helpful with answers to my questions. I purchased 4 records in great condition at a fair price, but tragically forgot them in my Airbnb! The staff was so helpful and diligent, i coordinated the dropoff at their store and their staff called to get them shipped to the correct address. Worth a visit and a regular return!
Gem 💎 found! Nicest record store owner I met in west coast by now. Thank you Jimmy I have no idea how old this store is but I just bumped into it, driving from San Diego, based on Discog info. As a vinyl hunter, I know they have a good taste for sure. And would like to trade my eastern artist collection like YMO, I am very grateful 🥹 If anybody knows what this event is please press ❤️
I've seen quite a few record stores, but this one is a true gem! I was passing through town and arrived at this beautiful store long before opening hours. While I peeped through the windows to assess the quality of the merchandise, the owner and his dog showed up and he (the owner!) told me his dog needed its morning walk, so no, I could not enter the store an hour and a half before opening, but if I returned at twelve, he'd be more than happy to help me. Eureka, being the friendly/quirky/non-standard town that it is, provided enough distraction to keep me busy until noon, after which time I was welcomed into this vinyl heaven. In case you're still reading this, you may wonder why this place is so great that I spend an hour in October to write about my visit in August? Well, it offers rock, some country, R&B, pop, and even metal, but my focus was on jazz. And the second hand jazz records on offer are a prime example to independent record store owners around the world: a broad selection of quality records, for great prices too! Where most stores in Holland offer at most two crates of second hand jazz records in OK-ish condition (inevitably containing 75% Benny Goodman, Oscar Peterson, Stan Getz, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Acker Bilck, Louis Armstrong, Ben Webster and some national jazz "celebrities"), this store has at least 5 times as much, without the plethora of mediocre mainstream jazz that characterizes many a Dutch record store. I found four records that, for quite some time, I'd been looking for and then some that I couldn't resist taking with me, after the more than helpful owner made a few suggestions to broaden my musical scope. Dent-free sleeves, clean and scratch-free vinyl, reasonable prices, a very helpful owner and his enthusiastic, super sweet dog: what else could you possibly be looking for in a record store??!! Unfortunately for me, within the next few years for financial and practical reasons, I won't return to the States, let alone Eureka, but boy, do I wish there were stores like this near me in Holland... But for all those vinyl enthusiasts passing or living in Humboldt County it's like the last line of the Beatles' Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da: "... So if you want some fun, go to the Friends of Sound!"
