I was visiting Jax and stopped at a couple of local record shops, looking for specific LPs for my personal collection. Jerry has a couple of tons of music media and audio equipment stuffed in every nook and cranny of his shop. It is not organized for the average person to figure out so you’ll need Jerry’s help. It was wonderful to speak with him. He’s a character and he told me he’s had the shop since 1968. I told him what I was looking for and he tried to accommodate my hunt; however, after 30 minutes of him searching, no joy. While waiting, I did find some LPs I was slightly interested in, but they were not priced. When I asked the prices, he overpriced them significantly relative to Discogs, especially for their physical condition. Most of the sleeves show significant wear, but there are some sealed old stock LPs too. When I asked if I could test the LPs or if he could play samples of them for me, he said he didn’t have a turntable hooked up to do so. He said if I had any issues, I could return them, but being from out-of-town, that wouldn’t work for me. I’m sure there are some hidden gems in there but good luck finding them. He has lots of LPs in there I’ve never seen before. IMHO, it’s really a shame, as I’m sure sales suffer because of organization or lack thereof. And the condition of the LPs are adversely affected because of how they’re stored. With better organization he’d have more frequent sales and he wouldn’t have to ask such high prices.
Must see if you’re in Jacksonville & a music collector! They have everything you could possibly imagine! CD’s Cassettes, Vinyl’s, DVD’s and more. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours in here. If you’re looking for something in particular, let them know and they’ll find it for you. Cannot wait to visit again.
Found this place by accident but loved it. Even took the family back on a follow-up visit a few days later. The owner (DJ) was very welcoming and had plenty to tell for those that would listen, been in that location from the beginning in 1968. Has a huge selection of records, mostly, give or take sorted. But it is stacked up, so getting through his entire catalog would take some dedication and time but might be worth it for those serious collectors. We purchased 6 albums in total with no issues and they do take debit/credit cards. I'd estimate that 6 people would basically max out the place, so don't go with a large group at once!!
Literally so many records, cassettes, CDs and more and if you can’t find what you’re looking for/ if the owner doesn’t have it in store, he can order it. The owners, Mr. Jerry & Ms. Varlene are friendly, personable, and they will do what they can to make your time in their shop a great one. 11/10, will be back for sure!
Unbelievable. I've never seen as many vinyl albums in my life. How they find everything a customer needs or wants is beyond me. Very fascinating. Great music is playing all the time. Don't expect what you are used to seeing in a record store. Find the vintage. Find the memories. Find the music you love. It is quite an experience.
