Super cool record store, could spend hours just looking at all the signed collectibles. The owner was super friendly and the store cat Hopper was adorable. Great place overall.
I've gone to Zia as much as the next physical media collector in the east valley, but the one thing they don't have is the personal touch of a locally owned business, especially to the caliber of Asylum Records! The owner has so many stories to share. If you're lucky you'll get to see the store cat too! Shop local, shop Asylum! 🤘🔥
[Update 1/15/2026] - 5 stars The store has expanded into the space next door. Great addition. This whole new section has a well-laid out CD and DVD area as well as a wrap-around display case arrangement and in these cases, Scott (the owner), has autographed horror collectible memorabilia displayed, real deal level. He has everything horror related, the big classic horror movie actors and group signatures on miscellaneous pieces. There's this siiick 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' landscape poster with everyone's signature on it and some tag lines, siiick piece, small price tag of around $5,000 - it's a nice piece, it looks like it may be worth around there give or take. Lot of unique collectible horror items, like Jason Voorhees autographed machetes, or Leatherface's sledgehammer. If I had infinite burn money, I would be coming back here to purchase some of these horror collectibles being displayed. Better than ever, great layout, you should definitely check out Asylum Records whether it's your first time or you haven't been in for awhile, the new room and layout is awesome. Attached new pictures. ---- [Update 11/19/2025] - 5 stars Stopped by, a store expansion is incoming! Love talking with Scott. Great store. ---- [Update 3/5/2025] - 4 stars I decided to drive over to Asylum Records after my appointment, I parked, walked up to the door, they were closed, it was 10:37am - took a picture of their hours just to make sure. They're supposed to be open. No note on the door, nothing on Facebook as far as I saw (on their page). I was coming here to buy something so I could get a coupon to go to Spooky's Swirls across the street since I saw they had a promotion thing going. It's just kind of annoying, this is 15-20 minutes out of my way so it's just wasted time. It's still a cool place, but kind of a bummer. ------------------------ [May/June 2024] - 5 stars When I walked in a cardinal sin was broken, there was no music playing (I'm kidding, the owner Scott made a joke about it). Once the music was re-established, he showed me around his store, he talked with me about all the bands and rockers who have stopped by to take pictures (which he has signed/framed on his wall) - we talked for quite awhile and it felt great. He has everything! If you can't find it, he'll write your information down and he'll take a look at his bigger collection and get back to you - which is super cool. I was in fact looking for some Testament signature(s) and gave him my information. I purchased a Testament limited vinyl record to support his business and he gave me a discount which was very nice of him (I didn't ask for it - appreciate that). Definitely worth checking out.
I had the BEST experience shopping here! I came for RSD 2025 looking for Taylor Swifts new pressed fortnight vinyl. Well, when the owner and another employee had asked what they could help me with, I told them what I was looking for. The owner had sold ALL copies except 1 in the back, which he offered to me. He was saving it for his niece, but said he was getting 4 more copies in the coming days (HINT HINT!!) and would just save one of those for her. When I was about to purchase, the owner offered me a SEALED AND SIGNED Taylor Swift Folklore CD! I was stunned. I obviously bought that too. It was the last one as well, but regardless, I HIGHLY recommend this shop. They’ll help you get what you’re looking for. The owner is so kind and has a great sense of humor. They had a HUGE SELECTION of vinyls, probably the largest I have ever seen. It was extremely organized. Props to yall!
Awesome place, lots of really cool music along with toys. They have a bunch out autographed records also. So if you’re heading to Phoenix, this a must stop and shop.
